Creating a Better World Through Better Animal Welfare

Just as we care for people and the planet, we also care for the animals on our farm. Animal welfare is one of our values and has been from the very beginning.

Just as we care for people and the planet, we also care for the animals on our farm. Animal welfare is one of our values and has been from the very beginning. We believe respect for land, people and animals are all a part of regenerative agriculture. Every living thing is connected, and we see the need to honor those connections in order to heal the earth so it can sustain life.

Certified Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World

When you make a purchase, you can know with certainty that we provide our flock with good, peaceful and humane lives.

As Central Grazing Company, we have been Certified Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World (AGW) since 2015. We’re committed to raising lambs ethically according to the highest standards and we only purchase certified AGW lambs from independent farmers.

The AGW Animal Welfare Approved (AWA) program is a USDA-approved, third party certifier who audits, verifies and supports independent farmers. Working with AGW specifically is important to us because their AWA certification is the most trusted and meaningful for animal welfare.

The AWA food label lets you buy for yourself and your loved ones with peace of mind. Our products come from humanely-raised lambs that live on pastures, socially and naturally, their whole lives for good health and well-being – and that’s better for all of us.

How Animal Welfare Helps Regeneration

Animal welfare plays a critical role in regenerative agriculture and our work to mitigate climate change. What’s best for animals is also a benefit to the planet, and we see it every day on our piece of the prairie.

By properly managing our flocks to mimic the predator/prey relationship in which prairie ecosystems evolved, we control how long sheep are in one place and how long until they return. As we responsibly and rotationally graze our flocks on pastures, we restore the ecosystems and are able to cycle soil nutrients, sequester carbon and create healthier and more resilient land.

The Difference We Can Make

The industrial food system depletes the land and allows for inhumane treatment of animals such as poor diet, health and living conditions. The result is a system that produces large quantities of cheap food at the high cost of quality and safety concerns.

We’re dedicated to growing a movement for lasting change. When we care for animals and let nature work as intended, we take care of the earth and create better food and a better environment for ourselves.

As moms and shepherds, we understand the value of products you can trust. Thank you for supporting our farm and our efforts to create a healthier planet.
